LAWAS: RM8 billion water grid supply project will be developed in October, said Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Johari Tun Openg when laying the foundation stone for Centre of Technical Excellence (Centexs) here yesterday.
He hoped that through the project implementation, water supply problems in some parts of the state could be solved.
At the function, the Chief Minister also commented on the water supply problem in Lawas which would be resolved by an allocation of RM169.4 million to be implemented within two years.
“We hope through the allocation and upgrading of water supply project in Lawas, areas such as Punang, Merapok and Trusan will not face water problems anymore,” he stressed.
Abang Johari further commented on Sarawak’s efforts to become an alternative energy supplier based on the use of hydrogen energy.
This includes conducting tests on the use of hydrogen fuel cell applications in the transport sector, digitisation of electrical energy, enhancing transformation implementation and becoming a global example in the provision of electricity to rural areas through clean energy consumption.
“The most important step is to make Kuching as the first city in the country to have such hydrogen powered bus as a pioneer project,” explained the Chief Minister.
He said, in fact, Japan also has deep interest in gaining hydrogen supply from the state in an effort to replace the unacceptable use of nuclear power.
Also present were Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, State Legislative Assembly Speaker Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar, State Secretary Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Morshidi Abdul Ghani and Limbang incumbent Member of Parliament Hasbi Habibollah.
