MIRI: The state government won’t budge on MA63 (Malaysia Agreement 1963) issues and will continue the effort to restore back Sarawak’s rights according to the original status.
“We are not against the amendments on Article 1(2), but we opted to abstain because we wanted our (Sarawak) right restored as enshrined in MA63,” Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg pointed out.
Addressing this during the “Today for Tomorrow (T4T) Pertiwi” townhall session hosted by Sarawak Volunteer in Bekenu on Saturday afternoon, Abang Johari said MA63 is the crucial basic element for the purpose of restoring back Sarawak’s rights.
“Our MPs (in Parliament) are not against the amendments, but the contents must include Sarawak’s original status as in MA63” he said.
“I hope they could refine the contents… arrange it properly. We are still in Malaysia, but at the same time we must fight for our rights,” he reckoned.
On another matter, Abang Johari also stressed on the important role of Sarawak’s youths in carrying out the works of today’s leaders for the future.
“You are our future leaders, and T4T is meant to expose you all on our rights as Sarawakians,” Abang Jo added.
He said the state government has been wanting and planning to further develop education and modern agriculture to propel its economy.
“I strongly believe that we have a good future ahead because we are in the right direction, with the right compass (for the direction) that is GPS,” he said.
During the session, Abang Jo also announced an allocation of RM5 million to construct Bekenu waterfront.
“We will also conduct a study for the proposed work to upgrade Bekenu community hall,” he said.
On another matter, Abang Johari disclosed that the Sarawak government is planning to set up 300 internet towers this year, and another 300 in 2020.
Meanwhile, earlier on when met during the T4T session, Bekenu assemblywoman Rosey Yunus and Layar assemblyman Gerald Rentap Jabu have shared similar thoughts on the event.
Both applauded the programme as it helps exposed youths to their rights as Sarawakians.
