KUCHING: Local Government and Housing Minister, Datuk Dr. Sim Kui Hian expressed anger at the ‘tidak-apa’ attitude of some contractors.

When he went to the drainage upgrading system project site at Lorong 3, Jalan Batu Kawa yesterday to meet the contractor, he warned that government will terminate his contract if he does not commence the project within this week.

“The contractor has been given many opportunities to complete the project. Yet, he is still unable to meet the government’s requirement. I don’t tolerate this sort of working culture,” he said.

The upgrading of earth drain to concrete drain project comes under the Department of Irrigation and Drainage. It was approved in October 2017 and expected to be completed by March 2018.

However, the contractor failed to deliver. In turn, DID issued a Certificate of Non-Compliance and warning letter in April and June 2018 respectively.

Sim stressed that the contract will be terminated if the works still cannot be completed as soon as possible and in compliance with government’s requirement.

“We will terminate the contract and will not give contractors any more opportunities as we have given too many opportunities to the contractors in the past,” Sim added.
