KUCHING: Gabungan Parti Sarawak’s (GPS) momentum continues to increase, especially its ability to administer the state independently without relying on other parties.
Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) vice-president Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said that this was proven after all the decisions were made involving the revenue of the state.
“We now have our own strength and ability. We make our own decisions including the management of the state’s revenues,” he stated at “Randau GPS for Pantai Damai Constituency” organised by PBB branch of Pantai Damai in Bintawa Ulu here last Sunday.
Abdul Rahman, who is also the Rural Electricity assistant minister, mentioned that the Sarawak government was serious about providing huge funds to overcome the problems of water and electricity supplies throughout the state.
He further added that history was created when the Sarawak administration was finally fully governed by the local people.
The Pantai Damai assemblyman also stressed that the establishment of GPS was not due to disloyalty to the Barisan Nasional but rather to the efforts in claiming Sarawak’s rights.
“We should be recognised as a territory rather than a state because we are the regions that form Malaysia together,” he said.
Abdul Rahman explained that the restoration of the status was important to ensure that Sarawak’s eroded rights could be restored.
“Sarawak should have equal rights as partners instead of being considered as second-class state.”
