SIBU: The Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) state government under the leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg adopts people-centric development policies.

A political secretary to the chief minister, Daniel Bujal said this was evident from the implementation of various development projects for the benefit of the people over the years.

“Now the GPS government is working hard to complete the coastal road network project, second state trunk road, Batang Lassa, Batang Igan and Batang Paloh bridges, among other projects.

“All these are meant to provide the best communication networks to the people. The good road networks will indirectly contribute to strengthening the people’s economic potential and shortening travelling time and distance from Sibu to Kuching,” he told reporters today.

Earlier, Daniel and SUPP Bawang Assan chairman, Senator Robert Lau Hui Yew presented building materials to residents of Tanjung Bekakap and Sungai Melanggan here.

They also presented building materials to stall hawkers along Jalan Tanjung Manis/Bawang Assan.

Daniel said the people-centric development policies adopted by the GPS government had undoubtedly helped to uplift the living standard of Sarawakians living in the rural areas.

“Under Abang Johari’s leadership, many rural areas are being developed and transformed through the implementation of various development projects.

“Of course, you cannot expect all projects to be implemented and completed overnight. But many have been implemented while some are still under implementation and many more still in the pipeline.

“GPS is not just making promises … it actually walks the talk and honours its promises,” he said.

The GPS government was also expediting efforts to provide electricity and water coverage to every longhouse and villages in the rural areas.

These were being carried out through the implementation of Sarawak Alternative Rural Electrification Scheme (Sares) and the Sarawak Alternative Water Supply (Sawas).

“Therefore, the people, especially those at the grassroots level, must understand that the GPS government adheres to its principle of prioritising Sarawak under the ‘Sarawak First’ slogan,” he said.
