BINTULU: The Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government has introduced various initiatives for the wellbeing of the people which reflected its commitment in helping the rakyat.

Native Laws and Customs Assistant Minister Datuk John Sikie Tayai said the initiatives and assistance were given to all walks of life from newborns to the elderly.

“These include the ‘Endowment Fund Sarawak’ for newborns, maternity incentives for mothers to provide postpartum needs and Kenyalang Gold Card (KGC) for senior citizens,” he said during a community policing workshop at Rumah Janting, Sungai Arip, Selangau.

He pointed out that these initiatives and assistance were to ensure development in the state was enjoyed by all walks of life.

Sikie explained that development not only involved infrastructure, but also in the form of welfare and wellbeing of the people.

The Kakus assemblyman stressed that every planning and development by the GPS government was to ease the burden of the people and provide convenience to all sections of the society.

At the programme, Sikie announced a minor rural project (MRP) grant of RM27,000 and RM5,000 respectively to the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) and Rumah Janting Women’s Bureau.

He also presented certificates of appointment to 40 village chiefs in Selangau under the supervision of Penghulu Lasit Bajieng.
