SERIAN: It is crucial for the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) to have a strong support from the voters in the 15th general election (GE15), to play a deciding role in determining the next federal government.
GPS candidate Datuk Seri Richard Riot Jaem, who is defending his Serian parliamentary seat, said the state’s ruling coalition – is an independent entity that is not obligated to join any other party or alliance in the Peninsula.
“So, it is important for GPS to win big on its own, before deciding to work with any party – that can assure political stability, in forming the next federal government until after the GE15.
“Don’t quote me wrong; we are not working with the Umno; and not necessary the Umno,” he told the reporters after the presentation ceremony of a cheque worth a total of RM518,232 as assistance to Serian Public Secondary School here yesterday.
When asked to comment on the GPS manifesto, Riot said it was one of the best as it has placed greater emphasis on the Bidayuh-majority areas, such as Bau, Lundu, and Serian.
He also applauded GPS’ decision to go alone as opposed to past general elections when it was teamed up with the national coalition. He was referring to Barisan Nasional.
“This time, we are not collaborating with any party.”
“This is what we want; to prioritise Sarawak since we are not bound to join the other side,” he said.
