BAU: The Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) is expected to wrest back the Mas Gading Parliamentary seat in the 15th general election (GE15).

Expressing hopes for GPS to win big in the Bidayuh heartland, State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar said the forthcoming general election will ensure that the electorates are in sync with their state representatives.

“In the previous state election, the people chose GPS resulting us to retake Opar from the opposition and retain Tasik Biru, which are under Mas Gading parliamentary constituency.

“The GE15 is an opportunity and time for GPS to take back the parliamentary seat which was won by the DAP in GE14,” said Asfia.

He said this during a ‘Leaders with the People’ session at Dewan Suarah Bau, today afternoon (Oct 19).

Noting how the people had chosen the opposition in Mas Gading during the previous GE, he pointed out that there was lack of development being done in the constituency.

“They did not even to go on the ground to help the people. Only at DUN level, the assemblymen go around and meet as well as help their constituents,” he said.

He commended Opar assemblyman Billy Sujang and Tasik Biru assemblyman Datuk Henry Harry Jinep for their victory in the state election.

He stressed it was important to take back Mas Gading and let GPS help to develop the area and the people.

During the event, Asfia met with the potential candidate for Mas Gading.

“Let the Premier announce his name when the time comes. We will go by protocol and the two grassroots leaders have decided for him to be the potential candidate.

“They will make the representation to the Premier and let him do the honour to announce him as the candidate for Mas Gading.

“We want all three areas – Opar and Tasik Biru and the Mas Gading Paliamentary seat under GPS so that we can develop the area and help the people,” he added.
