SERIAN: The struggle of the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) is to prioritise Sarawak and its people, said Bukit Semuja assemblyman John Ilus.

According to John, the GPS’ struggle is in line with the party’s slogan “Utamakan Sarawak” which fights for the people and the state.

He said some of the other political parties were more inclined to fight for an individual.

“However, we at GPS, our struggle is for Sarawak whereby our slogan is ‘Utamakan Sarawak’ (prioritise Sarawak) and neither for an individual, nor for the party but for Sarawak.

“If we look at the policy formulated by GPS at this time, it is more centered on the people, namely for the wellbeing of our own people,” he stressed.

This was said at the Majlis Pemimpin Bersama Rakyat (Leaders With the People Session) in conjunction with the handing over of minor rural project (MRP) cheques, Kenyalang Gold Cards, education incentives and letters of appointment for village heads and secretaries of Village Development and Security Committees (JKKKs) in  Bukit Semuja area at Dewan Ranchan here on Saturday (Aug 29).

At the ceremony, John handed over MRP cheques amounting to RM 175,000 to 23 associations, 11 recipients of education incentives, Kenyalang Gold Cards to 23 community leaders as well as certificates to JKKK heads and secretaries.

Meanwhile, he said the people should be careful not to be deceived by the promises of other political parties.

“Let us not be played with sentiments that are not so serious as they only use lip-services (empty talks) to deceive us.

“We are aware that they are moving upstream and downstream in the approaching situation,” he said.

Therefore, he called on the people to continue giving their support to GPS and the Sarawak Government.
