KUCHING: Seats contested by Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) for the 15th General Election (GE15), particularly within the Iban majority areas, are generally safe.
Institute of Borneo Studies UNIMAS research fellow Stanley Bye Kadam Kiai said while there are several issues that may affect the results, he is confident that GPS will be able to secure these seats.
“One of several factors that can contribute to the victory of these seats would be the personality of the candidate, the way they handle themselves, the way they try to communicate with the voters.
“This factor actually counts the most if you ask me,” he told New Sarawak Tribune.
He explained that GPS candidates who fail to observe this criteria will likely result in a slim majority victory.
“You can say that this is my concern (for GPS) as well,” he added
Stanley added that GPS did well in their campaign rally as candidates can be seen being on the ground, moving around, and meeting the voters in their respective constituencies.
“However, at the end of the day, it is for the coalition to win handsomely, and it is for them to lose if they did not do the campaign well,” he added.
GPS will contest in all 31 seats for the upcoming general election, with Betong, Julau, Sri Aman, Lubok Antu, Saratok, Selangau and Kapit being Iban-majority seats.
