KUCHING: Sarawakians are urged to give full support to their state government in the next election so that its leadership would become stronger and more able to reclaim the rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) that have been eroded over the years.
Demak Laut assemblyman Dr Hazland Abang Hipni said it was important to rally behind Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) to ensure that the struggle does not just go down the drain.
“The MA63 agreement talks began since former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak abolished the ISA in 2012,” he said during Santubong parliamentary-level Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) seminar at Penview Convention Centre (PCC) Demak, yesterday.
He then said in 2013, the late chief minister Pehin Sri Adenan Satem officially brought the matter up in the State Legislative Assembly (DUN), which was supported by all the assemblymen (ADUN).
“And today Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg is continuing that fight to regain our rights,” he stressed.
Hazland again warned the people not to let GPS lose power in the coming state election or else no one would speak up for Sarawak.
As for Demak Laut constituency, he said they have been on the ground meeting the villagers to tell them about Sarawak’s struggle.
“As of last week, we have visited 28 villages in Demak Laut area. And our efforts will not cease here. We will continue this fight to make sure all our rights are given back to Sarawak and her people.”
