BINTULU: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) component parties are rolling up their sleeves to work for a big win for GPS candidate Iskandar Turkee in the Jepak by-election on Nov 4.

Progressive Democratic Party (PDP), for instance, said it will deploy its machinery to pitch for votes in longhouses in the Jepak constituency and on Tuesday, Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) said it will do likewise.

According to PRS Supreme Council member Kennedy Chukpai Ugon, his party together with other GPS component party members have established close cooperation by coordinating programmes and activities throughout the campaign period.

“This state constituency has a total of 98 longhouses with many of them under PRS. Therefore, we have drawn up and identified members’ areas for us to mobilise machinery to help throughout the campaigning period.

“But it is coordinated with all the programmes implemented by the other components of the GPS. We will go on the field together, as well as on behalf of the PDP,” he said.

He said this when met by reporters after attending the Desa Cergas Programme at Rumah Lebung anak Luang here.

He said throughout the first four days of campaigning u, all members of the GPS party component have demonstrated excellent cooperation.

“In fact, I was amazed and happy to see the good cooperation of the residents in the longhouses. Their response to the GPS candidate was also very encouraging because they welcomed and agreed with the Premier’s chosen candidate.

“Therefore, it is hoped that with this good cooperation and cohesive spirit, a big victory can be realised on voting day on November 4,” he said.

Meanwhile,  Iskandar said the good response from longhouse residents  shows the people’s strong commitment and support for GPS.

“This is my second visit to the longhouse and the response is very encouraging. Today my campaign was helped by PRS which at the same time showed the loyal spirit of friends among GPS components.

“After this, there are other component parties who will also go on the field to campaign with a schedule that has been prepared. This is the commitment of all parties to ensure that we achieve a bigger victory than before,” he said.

In the meantime, he said various campaigning platforms were also carried out including through social media aside from going to the field.

“I am a new candidate, for me to go to the field and meet the community face to face is important so that I can introduce myself.

“This is an approach taught by the top management of the party so that we as representatives of the people remain humble, friendly and get to know the people more closely,” he added.

In addition, he said, the approach allowed him to listen to the community’s complaints better, especially the need to obtain complete and good basic infrastructure facilities.
