SERIAN: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB), Democratic Action Party (DAP) and an Independent candidate will be in a four-cornered fight for the Serian parliamentary seat in the 15th General Election (GE15).
Serian incumbent Datuk Seri Richard Riot Jaem (GPS), 71, will face off against PSB’s Elsiy Tingang, 61, DAP’s Learry Jabul, 42, and Independent Alim Impira, 61.
Election Commission (EC) returning officer (RO) Lim Hock Meng who is also the Serian District Officer made the official announcement at the Serian nomination centre at Serian Sarawak Administrative Centre here today (Nov 5) at 12.23pm.
Richard Riot arrived at the nomination centre around 8.25am, accompanied by proposer, Kedup assemblyman Martin Ben and seconder, Bukit Semuja assemblyman John Ilus.
They were also joined by Tebedu assemblyman Dr Simon Sinang Bada as well as over a thousand supporters who thronged the nomination centre.
Elsiy was the first to arrive at 7.30am, accompanied by proposer Peter Tajak and seconder Vincent Tingang.
Shortly after, Learry arrived at 7.45am and was accompanied by his proposer Mina Jugi and seconder Valentine Langgoi.
Alim Impira arrived at the centre at 8.10am. The retired government officer was accompanied by proposer Thomas Daling and seconder Kembi Rigong.
Meanwhile, the Batang Sadong parliamentary seat will see a straight fight between GPS greenhorn Rodiyah Sapiee and Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) Lahaji Lahiya candidate .
This was announced by EC returning officer Zainap Halip outside of Dewan Mesra Simunjan here at 11.30am.
Earlier at 8.30am, Rodiyah arrived at the nomination centre, together with her proposer, Sadong Jaya assemblyman Aidel Lariwoo, and her seconder, former Gedong assemblyman Datuk Naroden Majais.
At 8.50am, Lahaji arrived at the hall accompanied by proposer Kuswadie Abang and seconder Aboi Timbong.
Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri served as Batang Sadong MP for three terms and is now contesting for the Santubong seat.
