KUCHING: Today marks the first day of the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) rally after the official launch of the coalition’s hornbill logo on Wednesday.
The eight-day rally will last till Jan 18, covering major towns across Sarawak that aims to introduce the party’s new logo to the community.
For the 19 stops, the GPS convoy will first travel from Lawas, Limbang, then proceed to Miri today.
The rest of the stops will include Bintulu, Mukah, Selangau, Sibu, Kapit, Betong, Sri Aman, Balai Ringin, Serian, Siburan, Bau, Lundu, Batu Kawah, Sadong Jaya and Samarahan.
About 60 youths and women from the four component parties will lead the convoy and create awareness of the GPS logo.
Members of the coalition, namely Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS), Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP), and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) are going all out to promote the logo, especially among the older generation in the rural areas.
The convoy, aside from flying the GPS flag and with vehicles displaying the hornbill logo stickers, will have the members going down to the ground to meet the people.
More than 12 pressmen from Kuching are also in the convoy.
The evening of Jan 19 will be the grand launch of GPS and will be held at the Sarawak Indoor Stadium.
More than 8,000 members and supporters are expected to be present, and Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, who is also GPS president will officiate at the event.
