KAPIT: Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing said the beauty and advantage of being a Parti Gabungan Sarawak (GPS) state assemblyman and Member of Parliament is that he or she is allocated RM7 million a year to serve their constituents.

He added that of the RM7 million allocation, RM2 million is for Minor Rural Projects (MRP) while RM5 million is for Rural Transformation Projects (RTP) to implement community-based projects.

“Those projects are proposed by the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) because they are priority projects for the grassroots.

“For example, the constituents of Sri Aman parliamentary constituency stand to lose because their Member of Parliament Datuk Masir Kujat of PSB (Parti Sarawak Bersatu) was not allocated the fund after he left PRS (Parti Rakyat Sarawak) a component party of GPS.

“Every year each elected representative is allocated RM7 million and for one term (five years) the allocation is RM35 million. This is huge amount of money to implement various infrastructure and projects in the longhouses and villages which the rural people needed badly.

“Thus, the people whose elected representatives are not with GPS will suffer because of no allocation,” Masing said when he officiated at the presentation of MRP grants to 129 JKKKS and NGOs totalling RM1,804,000 in his Baleh state constituency at State Office Complex at Jalan Bleteh here last Friday.

He told the recipients that it was phase two of the MRP allocation for the constituents.

Among those present were Pelagus assemblyman, Wilson Nyabong Ijang, political secretary to the Chief Minister Nicholas Kudi Jantai and Kapit Resident Nyurak Keti.
