KUCHING: Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) is hopeful that Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) spirit will continue to be upheld for the ruling coalition to win big in the 12th State Election.
SUPP Dudong branch chairman Wong Ching Yong noted that GPS practised the spirit of consensus where decisions are made based on consensus, mutual respect and solving all differences internally.
“Our party president Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian on Aug 20 said that GPS has a mechanism to solve differences between component parties.
“Therefore, we are hopeful that the GPS spirit will be upheld,” he said in a statement prior to launching the Dudong and Bawang Assan operation room today.
Wong, who is a potential candidate, said Dudong first appeared in the Sarawak election history in 1970, and the first assemblyman was the late Kong Chung Siew of SUPP.
“Since 1983, the seat was contested and won by SUPP endorsed candidates. Datuk Dr Soon Choon Teck was the ADUN from 1991 to 2011. Out of the 11 state elections in Dudong constituency, SUPP won eight times.
“And history clearly dictates that the candidate for the next state election must be supported by SUPP Dudong branch and fully endorsed by party central of SUPP,” he said.
Wong recalled that never in its 61 years history of SUPP, the party president and central working committee (CWC) members jointly went to the Dudong and Bawang Assan branches to officiate the branches operation room.
“The gesture of the party president and the CWC speaks volume about the endorsement of the hard work that the party members and cadres of SUPP Sibu branches had put in over the last two years,” he said.
