KUCHING: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) is the real fighter for Sarawakian rights and not Malaya-based political parties, said Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau at the inaugural GPS Convention held at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) on Saturday.
Dennis hoped that GPS would hold such convention regularly to drum up this idea into the people.
He said the convention enabled grassroots leaders to have greater opportunities at sharing ideas as well as meeting the top leaderships.
Dennis led a delegation of 42 grassroots leaders from PBB Telang Usan to the convention.
“Though each constituency was given a limited quota of delegates, I had personally requested to bring more delegates from my rural constituency and I am glad my request was accepted,” he said.
Dennis explained that the information shared especially on the state’s effort to provide electricity, water and gas; land matters and issues on Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) as well as other pertinent issues would enable the grassroots leaders to disseminate the information to the constituents.
“Of course, the main objective was to hear the keynote address delivered by our Chief Minister and GPS chairman Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.
“He has rightly shared in detail his government’s efforts and achievements since he took over as the chief minister.
“He shared his direction where he want the state and people to be with a direct and very clear message, which I am sure have cleared the air and doubt on certain issues apart from giving our grassroots leaders the information they need to rebut the opposition parties’ lies and propagandas,” he added.
He added, knowing how the chief minister and his cabinet have delivered so much rakyat-centric development projects in a short span of time since he took over in early 2017 has brought the ‘feel good’ factor among Sarawakians.
“Most Sarawakians agree that Sarawak should be led by true breed local Sarawak parties having no ties with Malayan-based parties.”
Wan Billy, of Long Bemang and a committee member of PBB Telang Usan youth movement who attended the event was delighted to be part of the Telang Usan delegates and thanked Dennis for bringing him.
“Being a person who stays and lives in the longhouse, attending an event like this opens my eyes further and enables me to understand the commitment and hard work of our chief minister to develop our state,” he said.
