KUCHING: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) will support any decision made by the Election Commission (EC) regarding the redelineation of parliamentary or state constituencies in Sarawak.
Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) vice-president Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said it is time for redelineation as the last process was conducted over eight years ago.
“If they increase it in the urban areas, GPS will work hard for it. As we know, the urban seats have always been a challenge for us.
“We will make our presence felt in the urban areas. I believe that urban voters are rational. If they see that we have been looking after the state well, they will surely vote for us,” he told a press conference at the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) today (May 14).
He added that if redelineation occurs, the federal constitution will need to be amended once the new boundaries are identified.
“This redelineation can only be done by the EC, but I am not sure if they are already working on it.
“However, I am sure that many elected representatives want their areas to be considered, and the final decision will rest with the EC,” he added.
