KUCHING: The triumph of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate Iskandar Turkee in the Jepak by-election is a resounding endorsement that development in Jepak will continue on its course.
Political observer Datuk Peter Minos said the people of Jepak have spoken and endorsed a solid party for their win.
“GPS-Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) obtained 9638 votes while the opposition Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) obtained 854 votes and Parti Aspirasi Rakyat Sarawak (ASPIRASI) with 431 votes, thus GPS won with an impressive majority of 8784 votes.
“GPS-PBB is happy knowing that the people are with them. Both PBK and ASPIRASI anticipated their defeat from the beginning. The people of Jepak paid no heed to them,” he said in a press statement today (Nov 4).
He also said that the populace perceives GPS-PBB as a serious and steadfast party, guided by a committed leader.
“And until now, the government is serious with the growth and development of Sarawak,” he added.
Addressing PBK’s stance on fighting for democracy, Minos argued that it seemed more disruptive in nature.
“As for ASPIRASI, their participation seemed more like a leisurely expedition. Other parties abstained from the race, fearing an inevitable defeat.
“They recognized that the GPS-PBB party stands as unshakable as a solid granite mountain, impervious to disruption,” Minos said.
