KOTA SAMARAHAN: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) will not stop political parties from Peninsular Malaysia to contest in any parliamentary seats in Sarawak during the upcoming 15th general election (GE15).
Its general secretary Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said this reflects the democratic system that is being practised in Malaysia.
“Just like Perikatan Nasional (PN), it is up to them if they want to place their candidates to contest in any seats and we should not stop them from doing so,” he said.
He said this when asked by reporters on Perikatan Nasional placing candidates in four Parliamentary seats in the state, namely Batang Lupar, Saratok, Bintulu and Lubok Antu.
Asked on the GPS candidates, the caretaker Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affair stated that the list would consist of both young and experienced candidates.
“I’m not sure how many new and old faces so I would not comment on that. We shall wait for Thursday,” he said, referring to the unveiling of the GPS candidates by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg later today.
PN’s candidates in Sarawak comprise three from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) and one from Parti Islam Se-Malaysia (PAS).
They are incumbents Datuk Ali Biju who will defend the Saratok seat and Jugah Muyang in Lubok Antu.
The other Bersatu candidate is Duke Janteng who will contest in Bintulu while PAS’ sole candidate will contest in Batang Lupar.
