BINTULU: Although Gabungan Parti Sarawak is confident of retaining Jepak state seat in the by-election, the coalition will not and take the challenge of the opposing parties lightly.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, who is also Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) deputy president, said all the GPS component parties will work hard in the by-election to ensure a big victory.
“We are confident of winning, but we should not be overconfident as well,” he told the reporters after the nomination process held at the Bintulu Civic Centre here today (Oct 21).
Awang Tengah, who is also the GPS election director for the by-election, said his confidence (that GPS will win) was based on the past track record of GPS in the area.
“GPS will work diligently with a high spirit of determination for victory. I also hope that more voters will come forward to exercise their rights and ensure a high turnout percentage on the polling day,” he said.
He pointed out that GPS under the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, has succeeded in bringing various developments, including economic and social facilities, which have benefited the people of Sarawak.
“This victory in Jepak is important (for GPS) to continue the legacy of development and what the late Datuk Talib Zulpilip has planned before. We want to intensify our efforts to ensure that the community lives in a state of prosperity and harmony.
“We also hope that the voters will look at the track record of our Premier as well as his new policies. So, I call on the community, especially in the Jepak constituency, to continue supporting the GPS.
“It is important for them to realise that this (supporting GPS) could ensure that things that have been planned can materialise and of course all these will eventually benefit the people here,” he added.
