KUCHING: A total of 4,038 Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) graduands will receive their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees during the 23rd convocation ceremony to be held at the Arena Gemilang, DeTAR Putra in its campus in Kota Samarahan.
Its vice chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Mohamad Kadim Suaidi said out of the total, 484 will receive their PhD and Master’s degree while 3,554 graduands will receive their Bachelor’s degree.
“These numbers include 91 international graduands from 18 countries,” he announced during a press conference held at Kuching Waterfront here yesterday.
With this year’s convocation making a mark in history, Kadim revealed that there will be two elderly graduands, one 64, the other 74, receiving their PhD.
The convocation ceremony, to be held in five sessions, will see Unimas chancellor the Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud officiating at the first session.
“The ceremony will also see the conferment of an Honorary Doctorate in Economic Development on Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, who is also Unimas pro chancellor.”
Other academic awards such as the Royal Education Award, Chancellor’s Award and Pro Chancellor’s Award will be presented to selected graduands who had excelled in their academic and co-curriculum activities throughout their study at Unimas.
