KUCHING: A septuagenarian has been ordered to be remanded for seven days for allegedly sodomising his 10-year-old granddaughter in a house in Kpg Tanah Hitam, Sematan, Lundu.
Lundu acting police chief Inspector Kumbat Tan yesterday confirmed that the suspect, 71, has been detained to facilitate investigation.
He said the incident came to light early this week when the victim, a year four pupil, told her teacher that she was raped by her grandfather on Tuesday morning.
She claimed that before Tuesday she was raped several times when she was alone with her grandfather in the house.
The school informed the mother, a housewife, who brought her child to lodge a police report.
Police arrested the suspect on Wednesday in his house. The girl has been brought to the Sarawak General Hospital for checkup.
Kumbat said initial investigation revealed that the rape started in January this year and that before Tuesday, the last time the victim was raped was in September.
