SIBU: The grandson of the first Chief Minister of Sarawak, the late Tan Sri Datuk Amar Stephen Kalong Ningkan, was among the top scorers during the Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) announcement here yesterday.
Christian Isaac Ningkan Gerald Bala from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) St Thomas Kuching, who expressed his excitement at his excellent result, did not expect to be among the perfect scorers with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.0 for STPM 2022.
“I feel very grateful and proud of my achievement in my STPM results. I did not expect to achieve a CGPA of 4.0 as I did not meet my target in my Semester 3 paper, but for Semester 2, I did well.
“I also feel somewhat sad about my performance during Semester 3, which was not satisfactory, and it weakened my spirit at that time,” he said when met by reporters after the state’s STPM results announcement at SMK Sacred Heart here yesterday.
Christian said the unsatisfactory result was due to the long break during the COVID-19 pandemic.
He deemed the long break as one of the most challenging times during his Form 6 studies.
“I feel that before the Semester 3 exams, there was a significant gap during the break. I had built up momentum, and suddenly everything came to a halt. I think that affected me,” he said.
On his future endeavour, Christian said that he wanted to pursue his studies at University of Malaya.
“With this achievement, I hope to continue my studies at the University of Malaya to pursue law,” he said.
