KOTA SAMARAHAN: Grassroots leaders here have lauded the development efforts carried out by the Sarawak government.
Kampung Keniong Baru Simunjan village chief Francis Kunche said he had observed many developments around Kota Samarahan as compared to before.
“It is clear by looking at the infrastructure such as roads and bridges.
“In Simunjan, longhouses already have electricity, water and roads. However, we are still facing the problem of not having treated water but, I’m sure the state government would be able solve this issue,” he said.
His colleague at Kampung Sungai Semabang in Ulu Simunjan, Henry Jimai, said Samarahan was undergoing massive development and many facilities have been provided, but “we are also facing the same problem of not having clean, treated water in Ulu Simunjan”.
“No roads have been constructed to houses in new areas.
“I have seen, after three years under the leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, many developments, especially in coastal areas, had been implemented and we as the people, will always welcome such leaders,” he said.
Kampung Semalatong Baru in Ulu Simunjan village chief Bohari Abdul Karim explained that the Sarawak government was committed in developing rural areas, among others.
“It is also categorised as coastal areas just like Simunjan and we hope treated water will be accessible for our convenience.
“However, we are pleased with Abang Johari’s current tenure as Chief Minister and we will continue to support him,” he told reporters yesterday.
For Kampung Tambey village chief Umar Ayup, the most significant development in Kota Samarahan would be the roads and the Samarahan Bridge.
“At Kampung Tambey, we definitely need more improvement in terms of drainage, roads as well as a school,” he hoped.
Meanwhile, Kampung Sui village chief Chai Cheng Boon said road construction and the repair of homes occurred frequently in Kota Samarahan.
“In our village, roads leading to the temple and parking lots have been built using funds provided by the state government.
“I can see Abang Johari is taking good care of Sarawak and it is obvious he is resuming the responsibilities of the former Chief Minister, the late Pehin Sri Adenan Satem,” said Chai.
