KUCHING: Victorious Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate Chiew Choon Man has promised to develop Miri without leaving anyone behind.

In his Facebook post on Sunday, he expressed his appreciation to his supporters for giving him the trust to be Miri MP.

“This two-week period was certainly a challenging and difficult period for me and the team considering this was my first outing.

“However, due to team spirit we succeeded and this is a joint effort between us and the people of Miri,” he said, pledging to work hard to ensure the manifesto for the people will be fulfilled.

“We must join hands and work together to develop Miri,”said, adding, “set aside ideological and political differences.”

Chiew garnered a total of 39,549 votes to defeat Jeffery Phang of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) who polled 33,390 votes and Lawrence Lai of Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) who secured 5,209 votes.

The three-cornered fight saw Chiew winning with a majority of 6,159 votes.

Meanwhile, Oscar Ling of Democratic Action Party (DAP) who retained the Sibu seat for the third term also expressed his gratitude to his supporters for electing him.

“I believe we should continue to fight for democratic reform in our country.

“In the two weeks of campaigning, I thank everyone who pointed out my weakness so that I can further improve and provide the best service for the people of Sibu in the next five years,” Ling said in his Facebook post.

Ling secured 31,287 votes against Clarence Ting (GPS) with 23,527 votes and Wong Soon Koh of PSB (11,128 votes).
