GEDONG: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has agreed to construct two motor racing circuits in the state.

The first circuit will be built near the Gedong Mini Isthmus, complementing the existing sports complex.

“The Isthmus is newly developed, with a bridge and a stadium in place. So, this stadium can include a motor racing track. After this, those from Kuching can also come to Gedong,” Abang Johari said during the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Youth Assembly today (Nov 10).

The second circuit is planned for the Sibuti area.

“Datuk Lukanisman’s (Sibuti MP) constituency has also requested a track. We are looking for an area because Niah is recognised by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation).

We will develop the area near Niah and are seeking funds to build the motor racing track,” he added.

Meanwhile, PBB Youth chief Miro Simuh expressed enthusiasm for the project, highlighting Gedong’s excellent road connectivity as a factor that would attract visitors.

“This connectivity will make it easier for people to visit Gedong. And, with a motor racing track, we can attract more youth and young people to get involved in motor sports instead of using roads and highways as tracks to showcase their talents. We aim to make this track a platform for discovering talent in motor sports. One day, we hope to produce a Valentino Rossi from Sarawak,” he said.
