SERIAN: The perimeter of the newly earth-filled site for the Pastoral Centre here will be planted with grass to prevent soil erosion and also to provide green environment.
Vice chairman of St Theresa Parish Pastoral Council Anthony Taguk said the area would also be planted with selected quality coconuts and the fruits would be sold to generate revenue for the church.
“I would also suggest that the existing trees and vegetation on the land annexed to the centre be retained to provide shade for joggers.
“Some rare species of local trees like belian, rotan and sago palm will also be planted to generate revenue from the products to support the Parish Centre beside providing knowledge of natural environment to the younger generation.
“All these planting activities would be done by the parishioners on voluntary basis,” he said in a press statement after a council meeting on Wednesday.
He added that the activities are also in line with the green environment as encouraged by the government.
