BINTULU: A 59-year-old grocery store owner managed to escape to safety in the nick of time as fire engulfed the shop at Kampung Penan Muslim along Jalan Bintulu-Miri, here this morning.
The blaze occurred at 1.20 am.
A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firemen from the Bintulu station were promptly deployed to the scene following a distress call.
By the time they arrived at the scene, the fire was at it height, and there was nothing much the firefighters could do except to prevent the blaze from spreading.
The cause of the fire and losses incurred are yet to be ascertained.
