MIRI: Police detained seven Indonesian women working as guest relation officers (GROs) and 10 male customers during a raid at a pub in Simpang Ngu, Batu Niah today.
Miri Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Task Force, led by ASP Unang Giang, raided the premises at about 4am following a tip-off.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the pub was operating illegally, without valid licence.
All the women and partygoers (mostly Indonesians) aged between 20 and 40 years, are being detained at Miri Central Police station (CPS) for flouting the recovery movement control order (RMCO). They are also being investigated under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act for not possessing valid pass to enter Malaysia.
They were issued RM1,000 compound under Regulation 11 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 2020 for flouting the standard operating procedure (SOP).
The pub’s owner will be investigated under Section 5(2) of the Entertainment Ordinance 2001 for failing to produce any legal documents to operate the business.
That same morning, the team also swept two hotspots for drug dealing activities at Simpang Ngu Batu Niah, detaining six Indonesian men and two locals.
A CID Task Force personnel was almost stabbed by an Indonesian man during the raid held at one of the drug dens.
In the incident, a suspect suddenly barged towards the policeman and began attacking him.
The suspect was carrying a sharp Indonesian knife known as pisau belatik in his back pocket.
At the scene, police found several small transparent plastic packets and straws containing Syabu.
