SEBUYAU: The groundbreaking ceremony of the Batang Lupar Bridge, scheduled for this coming Thursday (Feb 18), will be postponed to a later date.

Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR) said the decision to postpone the ceremony was made in light of the Covid-19 situation in the state.

“The postponement was an early step to curb the spread of the Covid-19 infection in accordance with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) set by the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).

“Any inconvenience caused is deeply regretted,” it said in a statement today.

The ceremony was initially set to happen at the project site on Thursday and will be launched by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.
