KUCHING: As the festive seasons, including Christmas, and other non-festive celebrations approach, the demand for cocoa products is expected to surge across Malaysia.
According to Malaysian Cocoa Board director-general Datuk Dr Ramle Kasin, the cocoa industry will contribute significantly, generating an estimated RM8bil in export revenue.
“We will assess the actual figures by March 2024. However, with the economic upswing and heightened demand for cocoa products, I believe we will meet our target.”
He shared his insights during a press conference after officiating the closing ceremony of the second series of the Sarawak Super Cocoa Trainer Course at Harbour View Hotel here today (Dec 7).
“We are also hoping that the increase in demand will improve further for years to come, not only in Malaysia but also around the world.
“Outside Malaysia, we have been working hard in promoting our cocoa products for the purpose of penetrating the international market alongside solidifying it further.”
Discussing the recently concluded course, he highlighted its continuation from the inaugural course in 2022.
The course, held from Dec 4 to Dec 7, spanned Sarawak, Sabah and Peninsular Malaysia.
“The purpose of this course is for the farmers to gain further knowledge when it comes to managing the cocoa cultivation, and the maintenance of the cocoa plant.”
