THE GST Unit of Royal Malaysian Customs Department is introducing “Good & Services Tax (GST) Ambassadors Programme” to help small businesses in solving their GST issues as well as to guide them to follow the right procedures in paying the consumption tax, said a press statement yesterday. GST has been implemented since 1st April 2015, until today there are still some of the small businesses not familiar with the GST.

Sometimes small ones they do filling but it is incorrect filling, whereas this serves the purpose of introducing “GST Ambassadors Programme” to assist them before they caught and penalised by the Customs Department.

In this response, The Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sarawak (ACCCIS) will be organising the “GST Ambassadors Programme” on 25.11.2017 (Saturday) at 9:00 am at Level 4, Wee Boon Ping Hall of Wisma Chinese Chambers at Jalan Bukit Mata Kuching, 93100 Kuching, Sarawak, the press release said.

On the day, the Customs Depar tment will assign the knowledgeable customs officers to the programme and provide free advice.

The programme will be conducted in English. ACCCIS encourages all of the entrepreneurs/ businessmen to participate in this programme especially those small ones who can’t afford to go to Customs Department to seek for consultations, and this is a good opportunity for them to ask and to make the correction right after this programme.

Customs is giving leeway for these businesses till 1st January 2018 only, after which they would take a more “aggressive” approach via “enforced compliance”.

This programme allows free admission and is open for public; for those who are interested to participate, contact the Secretariat of ACCCIS at 082- 428815 or email to acccis11@ gmail.com for registration.
