SIBU: A 43-year-old man was sentenced to five years imprisonment for abusing drugs repeatedly.

In passing sentence, Sessions Court Judge Marutin Pagan also directed that Tony Asok from Telok Batu Bintangor, Sarikei, be given a stroke of the cane.

In addition, Marutin also ordered that he be placed under police supervision for three years after serving his prison term and to report to the nearest police station every three months.

The sentence took effect from the date of his arrest on Feb 8.

Tony was found to have consumed amphetamine and methamphetamine  at about 5.10 pm on Feb 8.

The charge also stated that he had no less than two previous convictions for a similar offence.

Insp Kalidasan Prasad with his team members from Narcotics Crime Investigation Department of Sibu had placed him under arrest at the Sungai Merah Police Station on suspicion of being involved in drug abuse activities. He tested positive for drugs
