KUALA LUMPUR: Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa yesterday concluded an eight-day working visit to Jordan, Turkey and Bosnia Herzegovina, during which talks on halal issues took centre stage.

Mujahid exchanged views with his counterparts in the three countries with the aim of improving bilateral ties, the Minister’s
Office in the Prime Minister’s Department said in a statement yesterday.

“During his two-day visit to Jordan, the minister made a courtesy call on Dr Abdel Naser Mousa Abul Bassal, the Minister of Waqaf, Islamic Affairs and Holy Places.

“They exchanged views on the respective ideas being promoted by the two countries, ‘Rahmatan Lil A’lamin’ and ‘Amman Message’.

“The minister also held a town hall session and presented a
public lecture entitled ‘Islamic Al-Manhaj (Approach) in Malaysia’ at Mu’tah University,” said the statement.

In Turkey, Mujahid called on its minister of trade and held a joint meeting with the deputy trade minister and Halal Agency of Turkey (HAK) director.

During the meeting, various issues on halal matters were discussed, in particular how to forge cooperation in relation to the halal industry.

In Turkey, Mujahid also visited the Islamic Affairs Department, an agency under the Turkish president’s office, and exchanged views on the administration of Islamic affairs in the two countries.

During the two-day visit to Turkey, he also visited the Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries (SMIIC) at the World Trade Centre in Istanbul, where he was greeted by SMIIC secretary-general Ihsan Ovut.

Malaysia is a board member of SMIIC, which is responsible for coordinating and promoting the halal certificate in OIC member countries.

As Malaysia is a world leader in halal certificate standards, the minister exchanged views with SMIIC on technology and Malaysia’s halal certificate in OIC countries, the statement said.

Mujahid then visited Bosnia Herzegovina to fulfil an invitation to attend the Sarajevo Business Forum (SBF) 2019, where he was given the honour of becoming a panel member for the first session together with Turkey’s Vice-President Fuar Oktay, Bosnia Herzegovina Foreign Minister Igor Crnadok, Montenegro’s Labour and Social Welfare Minister Kemal Purisic, and Moroccan minister Lahcen Daoudi.
