MIRI: A man was detained for allegedly stealing a handphone belonging to his former workmate at an oil palm plantation farm here on Oct 8.
The suspect, 23, was arrested by a team from the Miri Criminal Investigation Department following a report lodged by the complainant upon noticing the disappearance of his handphone inside his room in the morning of Sept 30.
It is understood that the complainant, 53, a security guard of the oil palm plantation farm had just finished his lunch in the canteen around 11am when he discovered that his handphone, worth RM600, which he had just recently bought, had gone missing.
Miri police chief ACP Hakemal Hawari said the suspect was immediately identified as he was spotted using an identical handphone as the one that was reported missing earlier.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect had resigned from the plantation farm and collected his final pay that morning.
The case is being investigated under Section 380 of the Penal Code for stealing.
