It was painted yesterday by 384 volunteers from Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Kota Samarahan campus, Social Welfare Department staff and residents of Rumah Kanak-Kanak Toh Puan Hajah Norkiah in Kuching who took part in the community engagement programme organised by UiTM and the Social Welfare Department.
Present during the project was vice principal of Sekolah Tunas Bakti (STB) Awang Madhi Awang Bakar.
Meanwhile, Muhammad Syafiq Mat Nazari of the student’s representative council (MPP) of UiTM Kota Samarahan said the objective of the programme was to enhance the students’ soft skills in preparation for their working life.
“The programme, which is also held by the Ministry of Education, aims to foster love and respect among the educators and their students,” he added.
The event was also implemented simultaneously at 80 institutions registered with the Social Welfare Departments in West Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak. Involved were 3,000 UiTM volunteers and 1,200 Social Welfare Department volunteers.
In West Malaysia, Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik had also officiated at the launching of a handprint mural at Rumah Seri Kenangan, an old folks’ home, in Cheras.
