SIEM REAP, Cambodia: “Just in time for Chap Goh Mei, and I can’t wait to meet my family back home.”

These were the words of 36-year old Lam Sang Kiong from Kuching who was among those freed by Cambodian authorities.

Lam, who worked as a chef before, left his job for greener pastures, but ended up being a victim of a job scam.

“I’m so happy.. I am going to celebrate Chap Goh Mei,” he said.

He said he was sad when he couldn’t celebrate Chinese New Year with his loved ones, and now that he was going back, it was the right timing for a family reunion.

“After this, I will take a good rest. And I’m going to work for my brother who owns as car accessories shop.”

He said the whole episode was a lesson for him and that he would be more cautious in accepting job offers overseas.
