KUCHING: True to their word and being a responsible state government, Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) has compensated 28 landowners whose lands are included in the Kampung Segedup Extension Project.
In a ceremony today, Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg doled out the compensation cheques for dwellers in Kampung Segedup.
New Sarawak Tribune managed to get hold of the recipients and here are what they have to say.
Yakub Suili
‘This is definitely a golden opportunity for the villagers of Kampung Segedup —to be part of the government’s development plans. I am very happy to be a part of it.’
Rambli Sedik
‘Initially, I’ve planned to divide the land to my children. But when the government decided that they wanted to develop the land for the benefit of the villagers, I decided to comply. I know that the development planned is for the betterment of the villagers and also future generations.’
Jamidi Sedik
‘Although I feel heavy-hearted to part with the inherited land from my late parents, I am grateful that our state government is providing us with good compensation. The people in Kampung Segedup and Kampung Maong are very happy with the development plans that the state government intends to implement.’
Ahmad Kendong Abdul Khan
‘I hope that we will be given the opportunity and priority to purchase a house when the new housing scheme is completed. The compensation received will be equally divided among my siblings which is sufficient for us to invest in a new house or for our children’s education’.
