The incident, which went viral on social media, happened around 4.40 pm on Tuesday (Jan 30) where a Toyota Vios on the fast lane was not giving away to an ambulance with its siren blaring.

Bintulu police chief Supt Nixon Joshua Ali said traffic police managed to identify the 74-year-old driver and instructed him to go to the traffic police office to assist with investigations.

“The driver has been issued a compound notice under Rule 9 of Traffic Rules 166/59 for not giving way to an ambulance with its siren blaring.

“It is understood that the driver has hearing problems and that his hearing aids were not working properly at the time,” he said.

Nixon reminded road users to give way when an emergency siren is sounded by an ambulance or police and Bomba vehicles
