KUCHING: Deputy Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development II (Talent Development) Datuk Francis Harden Hollis has approved key allocations under the 2025 Minor Rural Project (MRP) and Rural Transformation Project (RTP) initiatives.

These funds are directed towards local community enhancement in the Batu Lintang, benefiting both the Village Security and Development Committee (JKKK) of Sungai Labi and the residents of Jacktola Longhouse, Kampung Sungai Labi.

The allocations include RM5,000 to the JKKK Sungai Labi for local development efforts and an additional RM3,000 to Biro Wanita, a committee supporting women in the community.

RM100,000 has also been allocated under the RTP for constructing an awning and a veranda floor to serve both longhouses and private residences within Jacktola Longhouse in Kampung Sungai Labi, Batu Lintang Undop, Sri Aman.

Harden also inaugurated a new suspension bridge over the Sungai Undop and the upgraded access road leading to Jacktola Longhouse.

The bridge, completed in 2016 at a cost of RM250,000, and the cemented access road, completed in 2021 for RM200,000, represent a combined investment of RM450,000.

“The main factor in approving these projects is the anticipated economic benefit for our community,” Harden stated.

“Agriculture and animal husbandry, when supported by proper infrastructure, can significantly elevate the living standards of our people. In Batu Lintang, several projects are already underway or have been completed, and our future planning includes establishing a Service Centre in Batu Lintang town to attract visitors and foster economic growth.”

The infrastructural projects also align with the community’s request for easier access to agricultural land, which can facilitate expanded economic activities and a stronger foundation for agricultural development.
