KUCHING: The International Digital Economy Conference Sarawak (IDECS) 2024 will explore how artificial intelligence (AI) can be harnessed to address pressing global challenges while promoting sustainable practices, says Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki.

State Secretary Mohamad Abu Bakar, who is also IDECS 2024 chairman, added that the 7th edition of IDECS marks a key milestone, with its theme, ‘AI for Sustainable Development: Navigating the Green and Circular Future’.

“This year’s theme resonates with the global imperative for sustainable development and our commitment to creating a future for economic prosperity, social inclusivity, and environmental sustainability,”

“As the world grapples with the challenges of climate change, environmental degradation, and resource depletion, it has become increasingly clear that embracing advanced technologies such as AI is crucial in addressing these issues.”

Mohamad Abu Bakar said this in his welcoming speech during the 7th edition of IDECS at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching here today (Oct 16).

Scheduled for Oct 16 to 17, the conference will explore how AI can be harnessed to address pressing global challenges while promoting sustainable practices.

“Hence, in alignment with the theme, we have curated an exciting programme that features sessions on The Future, Future Cities, She Tech, and the Start-Up Village.

“The Future session will explore emerging technologies and trends that are shaping our world, emphasising the visionary role of AI in sustainable development.

“Future Cities will focus on smart urban planning and sustainability. This session will explore smart city initiatives, sustainable urban planning, and the role of AI in creating livable, efficient, and green cities.”

Additionally, he added that the She Tech session is designed to empower and inspire women in the field of technology.

“It will feature accomplished female leaders and pioneers who have made remarkable advancements in the tech industry, sharing their insights and experiences.

“By promoting diversity and inclusion in technology, we can unlock the full potential of our talent pool and stimulate innovation across all sectors of society.”
