SIBU: A 45-year-old man was fined RM2,000 and in default, a 14 days imprisonment by the Magistrate’s Court yesterday for failing to produce his identity card for inspection by the police.

Magistrate Oon Kork Chern meted out the sentence after Jakaria Rabaie from Sri Aman pleaded no contest to the charge read and explained to him through an interpreter.

The charge against him stated that he failed to produce his identity card for inspection at a lodging house in Tan Sri Street at about 4.30pm on April 5, thus contravened Regulation 7(1)(A) of the National Registration Regulation 1990.

The offence punishable under Regulation 25 (1)(n) of the National Registration 1990 which provides for an imprisonment of up to three years or fine not exceeding RM20,000 or both.

According to the fact of case on April 5 at about 4.30pm, at a lodging house in Tan Sri Street, a team of police from Criminal Investigation Department led by Inspector Andrew Undum Isa arrested a man for further investigation.

Investigation outcome revealed that the accused failed to provide his national identification document to the police for inspection.

The case was prosecuted by Inspector Kumareswaran Murugan while the accused who was unrepresented, failed to pay the fine.
