KUCHING: Several hotels and organisations here have earned praises for their proactive move — taking responsibility for the comfort and wellbeing of the hardworking frontliners —in light of the Covid-19 pandemic that has gripped the nation.

Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) said amidst what has been happening it would be easy for everyone to be dragged down — physically, mentally and emotionally.

“But as Sarawakians, we’ve always persevered. We should not only try to look for but must see how this scenario can lead to many positive outcomes.

“One such heartening story is the proactive move taken by Riverside Majestic Hotel (Astana Wing) which has allocated a total of 50 rooms for medical frontliners from the State Health Department to rest their weary bodies after their long shifts,” STB chief executive officer Sharzede Datuk Salleh Askor said.

According to her, this was made possible by collaboration with Chong Realty Estate which has also provided transportation to make it easier and safer for the medical heroes to fight the battle.

“These are unprecedented times we live in. The world is in a crisis mode and things are uncertain now, with countries under lockdown, major events being cancelled or postponed worldwide to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

“Here in Malaysia, our health and other frontliners are fighting a daily battle to help prevent the spread of this unfortunate situation. Many lives and businesses have gone ‘topsy-turvy’ as everyone tries to cope with this challenge,” she said in a media statement yesterday.

Sharzede said a few other hotels and buildings here had also lighted up their buildings with heart shaped designs to share a message of love for all during this challenging time.

“We believe during this difficult time, it is important to be there for one another. Carrying on with whatever aspects of work that we can must be ‘with a heart’. This we already clearly see from the medical personnel and many other frontliners.”

She urged other organisations to also step-up to contribute, adding: “It is wonderful to see how these organisations have come together with such acts of kindness to provide comfort for our hardworking frontliner ‘heroes’, who have put their own lives on the line, for the public good.

“We send our thoughts, love and prayers to all frontliners to be safe and strong. By supporting each other, together, we can fight this,” she added.
