KUCHING: Strong economy and racial unity are the main keys to the state’s prosperity and progress.
Hence, Minister of Local Government and Housing, Datuk Seri Prof Dr Sim Kui Hian, encouraged Sarawakians to heed Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg’s urging to remain united in order to progress in the next 10 years at least.
“In the past, we were too dependent on the federal government for assistance. We must change that,” he said during his speech at the launching ceremony of SUPP Stakan new office, yesterday.
He also hoped that in the next 10 years, the state would grow out of dependence on the federal government.
Confident that the state would be capable of generating its own revenue, he said as long as Sarawakians remained united, no one could stop the progress of the state.
“In 2018, our state revenue was around RM6 billion, and in 2019 it was about RM10 billion. Hopefully in the next few years, we could collect up to RM20 billion.
“When the state has its own money, we can do everything by ourselves,” he said.
Dr Sim, who is also the president of Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP), believes that SUPP still survives until today because of its mission of fighting for Sarawak and its people.
“SUPP is the first multi-racial party in Sarawak, even before the formation of Malaysia. It is a pleasure to see unity as shown by the multi-racial members of all SUPP branches, and members of PBB, PDP and PRS.”
In addition, he also advised the people to be aware of Pakatan Harapan’s tactics of dividing the people through various means.
