KUCHING: Around 70 dogs were given the anti-rabies vaccine shot during the Rabies Vaccination Programme yesterday.
The programme was organised by the Department of Veterinary Services Sarawak (DVSS), and was held at Balai Raya Desa Wira.
According to a spokesperson from the department, the programme is held once a week in its effort to stop the spread of rabies.
Meanwhile, New Sarawak Tribune also asked a few people on their views on the programme held by DVSS.
DVSS staff AhtienIjon said: “The programme has increased the awareness among the public judging from the attendance today. Many of them were repeat pet owners; they came last year.
“A few came because they couldn’t get their pet vaccinated the last time when we ran out of supply.”
“Usually the programme is carried out once a week now. The people can visit DVSS website for the next location of the programme.”
Stanley Repon, a Penghulufor the Dayak community in Batu Kawa has this to say about the programme:
“I hope the authority can organise more seminars and meet-the-people-sessions on the dangers of rabies outbreak…or even on how to care for pets.
“It is good to be aware of what is going on from time to time. Rabies is no joke, we need to be aware of it and how to prevent it,” he added
