The next generation of politicians needs to be brave and have the passion to lead the people.

Datuk Paduka Sharifah Mordiah Fauzi (pic) pointed out that beside these qualities, they must also contribute to the community to show that they were worthy of being a leader.

“A leader must set an example to the younger ones because they look up to us. If we do good like provide contributions or bring in development programmes to our constituency, they will look up to us.

“That way, we can spark their passion to be involved in politics. We should not be afraid to give up our spots to the younger ones as they are the future leaders of the state and the country,” said the veteran politician.

The former PBB Women’s chief said current leaders must accept that it was time to bring in fresh blood into the party.

Thus, she reiterated that PBB elected representatives must be ready for a change as Sarawak’s politics was moving forward, especially into the world of digitalisation.

“Among party members, there is a need for balance between the old-timers and the youth, including party committee members.

“So this will be a learning process for the youth to understand what it means to be in PBB from our long-time party members.

“If they learn, be proactive with the party’s youth programmes and do well, the party will have confidence in them to be in politics and in leading the state,” added Sharifah Mordiah.

She also noted that youth these days were tech savvy and knew their way around the internet and other sophisticated gadgets which could be an advantage in future.

In addition, she said this would make it easier for them to monitor the progress of development and communicate with the grassroots.

“The important thing here, especially for the youth, when joining a political party, is to respect the people around you and stay united for the party.

“Be honest to yourself if you want to improve and become the next leader of the party and Sarawak,” she advised.

Sharifah Mordiah hoped that PBB would continue to be the backbone of Sarawak politics for many years to come under the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and his team.
