MIRI: The Miri City Council (MCC) here has allowed hawkers and small traders to conduct their businesses within their housing areas during the month of Ramadan this year in an effort to assist the low-income group that has been affected by the Covid-19 situation.
The council’s secretary Morshidi Fredrick said however, they must adhere to the standard operating procedures (SOPs) set by the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) and Ministry of Health.
“Before operating their businesses, they must apply for trading permits from MCC,” he said when met today (March 30).
Morshidi said trading permits will enable the council to regulate hawkers and small traders during the period.
He also visited Lutong Market to assess SOP compliance, and was accompanied by Transport Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin.
Also present during the visit was Miri acting Resident Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof.
Meanwhile, Lee, who is also minister-in-charge of the Miri Divisional Disaster Management Committee, hoped that by allowing hawkers and small traders to conduct their businesses, they will earn some income to prepare for Hari Raya.
