KUCHING: Markets and hawker centres under the Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) jurisdiction are advised to follow the new standard operating procedures (SOP) to contain the spread of Covid-19 pandemic.

The council has released new SOP guidelines for markets and hawker centres under its administration due to the rising cases of Covid-19 in the state.

MPP chairman Lo Khere Chiang said although there were no cases recorded related to markets or hawker centres under its jurisdiction, the public must be vigilant at all times.

“MPP has no recorded cases of Covid-19 so far but we must follow the SOP to ensure that everything is safe for the hawkers, traders and their customers.

“Therefore, everyone needs to take precautionary steps and make our place safe for people to go,” said Lo, during a press conference via Zoom meeting today.

The SOP explained that stalls need to be two metres apart for social distancing purposes and allowed only one entrance and one exit for markets and hawker centres.

“Hawkers, operators and workers also need to scan the QR code using the MySejahtera application before entering the markets or the temporary hawker centres.

“For manual records, they need to write their names, telephone number, date, signature and their temperature in a booklet as well, which is separate from customer record books,” he added.

Children below the age of 12 are not encouraged to enter markets, and those who are sick, having coughing or flu are not allowed to enter.

Besides that, markets and hawkers need to provide hand sanitisers and ensure customers wear their face mask while browsing for items and vegetables.

“We advise market operators to use Sodium Hypochlorite as recommended by the Ministry of Health (MoH) to disinfect the premises every day after operation hours,” said Lo.

The council has listed 11 markets and hawker centres under its jurisdiction which will be imposed with the new SOP.

“To people who are going to the market or any other places, I remind you to take shower immediately when arriving home and stay clean to make your home safe from the virus,” he advised.
