SIBU: Sibu Municipal Council (MPS) advised its hawkers here at the Sibu Central Market to undergo Covid-19 testing as a precautionary measure, said its chairman Counselor Clarence Ting Ing Horh.
He said this shows the efforts of MPS who are committed to safeguarding the safety of the public and subsequently curbing the epidemic that is currently the world’s top enemy.
“The hawkers at Sibu Central Market today (Jul 18) are undergoing Covid-19 screening held at the top floor of the MPS multi-storey car park at Jalan Wong Nai Siong here.
“MPS wants to ensure that everyone is safe by undergoing the screening as a precautionary measure. This test will be conducted continuously.
“I hope the public would also play the same role to remain safe and for the safety of others as well,” he said when contacted yesterday (Jul 18).
Meanwhile, the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) will conduct random tests involving the market sector should the state face a second wave of Covid-19 outbreaks.
Deputy Chief Minister and SDMC chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas asked the public not to feel intimidated and cooperate throughout the random testing.
“It is free and good for you,” he said when delivering SDMC’s daily Covid-19 update on Friday (Jul 17).
He added that these random tests could also be done on those involved in childcare centres, schools, and nursing homes.
